Abstract: Yttrium Barium Copper Oxide (YBCO) is a high temperature superconductor and Lanthanum Strontium Manganese Oxide (LSMO) has a metal insulator transition at optimal Strontium substitution. Both have exciting properties. In this thesis, we studied about LSMO and YBCO and their thin films. Using solid state reaction (SSR) route, polycrystalline samples of LSMO and YBCO were synthesized. These were characterized for phase purity using X-ray diffraction studies. Thin film deposition of LSMO and YBCO were performed using Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD) technique and the process parameters for the same were optimized. Magnetization and transport properties were studied using Quantum DesignTM SQUID vibrating sample magnetometer (SVSM) and QuazarTechTM Physical quantity measurement system (PQMS) respectively. We also grew thin film heterostructure. The result shows that LSMO shows metal-insulator and ferromagnetic-paramagnetic transition and YBCO shows superconductivity and diamagnetic property. Phase purity of thin film checked by XRD.
