Abstract: Video compression has become indispensable in the surveillance industry today where storage and transmission of digital data are cost incurring procedures. Development and adaptation of existing compressing schemes to the domain of surveillance is deemed a matter of great importance. This project deals with the compression scheme H.264, which is rapidly replacing the existing compression schemes and making headway into surveillance domain. A H.264 Encoder of baseline profile is implemented and tested over surveillance videos. Various parameters for the encoder are fine tuned.
